“Pokret Gorana Pančeva” Environmental Organisation was founded in 1960, just like “Pokret Gorana Vojvodine” and “Pokret Gorana Srbije” Environmental Organisations of Vojvodina and Serbia.
It was founded to bring together young people and participants in tree planting initiatives. Mass tree planting campaigns have changed over time into creation of green areas in cities and planting of trees along roads and rivers and in fields as protection against wind, and also arrangement of green areas in cities and school yards.
In its 50 years of work, the movement produced more than 12 million seedlings - which is enough to circle the Earth twice, and its planting campaigns brought together more than 2.5 million people.
“Pokret Gorana” planted trees on, developed and made green the surface of more than 410,000 hectares, which is considered to be one of the most successful investments during the period. For its contribution to environmental protection, “Pokret Gorana” was awarded the United Nations’ Global 500 Roll of Honour in 1989.
